Verse 14: “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”

There is a 15-second commercial that runs on our local TV stations that I always get a chuckle about. A fellow is in front of his house, sees his front gate come loose, when suddenly a big old gorilla ambles up to him and startles him momentarily (note: if a big old gorilla ambled up to me, I think I would do more than just be startled. :-)) Then the gorilla hands the man a bottle of Gorilla Glue©. The man nods and uses it to fix his gate. A companion piece runs right behind it with a fellow trying to tape up a tarp on a window before a storm, but the tape is lacking. Enter the gorilla again, startles that guy, but then hands him Gorilla Tape©. The guy tapes his window securely, with the gorilla giving it a tug as proof. (of course, the gorilla is CGI, but still well done).

The point being emphasized is the incredible bonding power of both the glue and the tape. Here, Paul is reminding the Colossians, that love is the bond of perfection. As Proverbs 10:12 states: “Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all sins.” When we sincerely confess our sins to God, He forgives us, because His forgiveness is rooted in love. And nothing can break the bond of love that God has for us.

Something to think about.
