Proverbs 14:1-5

Verse 1: “The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish tears it down with her own hands.”

One of the many blessings God has given me (in fact, second only to Jesus) is my wife. She is, among many titles, a wonderful homemaker.

Earlier this year, I had to take a couple of weeks of leave to care for her after she had back surgery. For that first week, I did everything…and I do mean everything. Now, I am not helpless, and I did my best to take care of everything, so my wife could heal (had to keep one eye on her just to keep her from overdoing it! 🙂 ) I am glad I had the time off from work, so that I could do the washing, cleaning, taking care of the boys, and keeping the house straight. Folks, I appreciate the work my wife does, and got an even BIGGER appreciation after having to do it all myself and watch after her. (We were blessed also by the many meals cooked for us by our church members… my cooking skills are limited…..okay, you can stop laughing now.)

The wife, the mother, the homemaker is the glue that builds a home and keeps it together. That is harder still for single moms or for those couples who have to hold down 2 jobs. Home is a refuge from the assaults of the world and society…at least it should be. If you have a mother and/or a wife, thank God for them today. If you are a mother and/or a wife, thank God for the home he has put in your care.

Have a blessed day!
